Today is my financial anniversary!
This time last year for the first time I added up all my debt, looked at my bank account balance and googled ‘personal finance’ with much trepidation.
I was very scared, worried and doubtful of even the immediate future of being able to pay for my living expenses, but a full year later I’m so proud of all I’ve accomplished.
In this time I paid off all of my credit card debt, saved more than $6000 in preparation for a move across the country, opened up an RRSP and took advantage of my employer’s match, began saving in a TFSA, increased my salary by 60%, paid nearly $4000 towards my student loan and have began to save towards future tuition.
A year and a day ago I didn’t even know what half of those things were!
But writing that down all together really just makes me say WOW! I’m living proof what a lot of learning and motivation can do. There is so much great information out there about owning up to your financial reality, I really encourage you to start doing it.
It doesn’t mean it’s always easy and positive and exciting.
Even earlier today I was thinking a bit about debt fatigue and about if there will ever be a time where I can have my full salary to myself. In reflecting on my own achievements, and the very amazing achievement’s of other personal finance bloggers who have paid off their debt (like Blonde on a Budget and Bridget from Money after Graduation) I can only be motivated that my time will come as well.
What have you accomplished this year?
